Jose Cobos, Class of 2003
Jose was an exhange student from Venezuela and was not eligible to participate in competition. Despite that he attended almost every practice and match worked hard to become a better wrestler. His dedication is outstanding in a time when many athletes just look for instant rewards and are not willing to put in the time and effort necessary in a demanding sport.
While at ERHS Jose was involved with the Martin Luther King Assembly, the Multicultural Club and helped with the Jaguar baseball program. He enjoys Salsa Dancing in dance exhibitions.
Jose stated that at first he was not sure about wrestling and if it was the sport for him, but he now wishes that his country had more wrestling. He enjoyed being a part of the team, being on the bench during competitions and working out to get in shape.
Following his year at ERHS Jose returned to Venezuela and is attending college. He hopes to start his Systems Engineering classes this September.
