Mark Bentley, Class of 2002
Mark made history in 2001as the first Jaguar to compete at a state tournament in any sport along with gymnast Melissa Barkley. Bentley then went on to better that during his senior year by placing fifth in state at 135 pounds, our first wrestling state placer and only the second in any sport at the time. Bentley was also one of our first two Regional Finalists.
He led the team in almost every statistical category as a junior and holds many school records. Mark was elected team captain for the 2001 season and was voted as the Most Outstanding Wrestler by his teammates for our first two seasons. James was a two-time Wrestler of the Week, two-time 20-win Club member.
Mark was also involved in Cross Country, Boy Scouts and the Priests Quorum at his church. “The bus rides home after the matches” are his best memory of Jag Wrestling, while “running lines and losing matches” are his worst.
After serving a full time Mormon mission in Nagoya, Japan over the next few years, Mark hopes to return home, go to school long enough to get a Masters degree in a sensible career, and raise a family. |
