Jaguars defend Team Camp Title
Thirty current and future Jaguar Wrestlers travelled to the Kennewick Team Wrestling Camp for the second straight year, and defended their team title. Fielding two teams, the Jaguars competed well and learned from techinicians Justin Abdou, Otto Olson, Jack Anderson and Shane Jaime. During the four day camp, the athletes competed in ten duals. The first seven were pool matches to determine seeds and the final three were the tournament matches to determine final placings.
In pool matches, the Green Team finished 5-2 with the third seed, losing duals to Olympic and Southridge. The Silver Team was sixth with a record of 2-5. But the Green Team stepped it up in the tournament as they defeated Kennewick, Olympic and finally Southridge for the team championship. The Silver Team finished in 7th.
Three Jaguar wrestlers finished the camp undefeated. Nick Webster, John Gallagher and Keith Schlecht. Schlecht was voted as the Outstanding Middle-Weight wrestler as he was 8-0 with 8 pins. Webster record 7 pins as he also went 8-0. Gallagher was 8-0 with 4 pins and a major decision. Other wrestlers had great weeks including Julio Rodriguez who was 7-1 with 7 pins. His only loss came to a 2004 state placer by a score of 4-2 as Rodriguez bumped up to 140 from 125 for the match. David Wicklund finished 8-1with 8 pins.Kevin Wicklund was 7-2 with 4 pins, and recorded the highest bowling score at the end-of-camp bowling tournament, the second straight Jaguar to claim that title.
It was a good week of camp for the Jaguar TEAM as the head into the 2005 season starting in November.
