Jaguar Wrestling "Wrestler of the Week" for 2002-2003

Week Wrestler and description of their week
Week 1

Phillip Baum - The sophomore started his high school career with five straight wins this week, and his first tournament title, winning the Mariner Invitational at 103 pounds. All of his wins were major decisions, technical falls or pins.
Week 2
Justin Skavlem - Justin won all four of his matches this week, winning the FP JV Tournament and running his record to 7-1 on the year. Justin is a hard worker whose efforts are beginning to show as he continues to improve during his junior year.
Week 3
Louis Bernardo - The senior captain won his first varsity tournament, capturing the 171 pound title at the Franklin Pierce Cardinal Classic. This week he went 5-0 with two wins in our dual meets. His season record at this point is 12-3. During the Cardinal Classic, Bernardo also secured his 43rd takedown of the season and the 98th of his career, which surpasses the previous Jag Wrestling record of 95 held by Mark Bentley.
Week 4
Brant Ernst - Brant moved down to the 112 pound weight class this week and that move proved to be the decisive pin in our match against Spanaway Lake. Ernst was the last wrestler in the dual since we started at 119, and his pin gave us the 1 point win. He also had a good day at the JV tournament the week before winning three of his four matches.
Weeks 5-6
Garrod Forbes - Garrod's matches are always exciting. This past week he went into overtime in our dual against Rogers with a tough wrestler, and placed second in the past two tournaments at Emerald Ridge and Tahoma. In both cases he won close matches in the final seconds. Garrod is never one to give up during a match.
Weeks 7-8
Kelly Thompson- Kelly wrested well to place third at the JV Qualifier, but lost his first match at league. The senior then went on to win his next four matches to place third at the SPSL Tournament and qualify for the Regional Tournament. Along the way Kelly beat two wrestlers he had lost to earlier in the season. Kelly is a Two-time W.O.W. as he won the award in his sophomore year.
Weeks 9-10
Louis Bernardo - Louis finished off a great season with two weeks of solid wrestling. Bernardo became our first regional champion and placed sixth at state at a tough 171 pound weight class. He set all kinds of Jag Wrestling records this week, including number of wins (31), matches (41), takedowns (117) along with some others. Louis is a two-time winner of the Wrestler of the Week.
