Rogers 27 - ER 22
Varsity Dual record: 7-5, 5-2 in league. |
What a match. The gym was full, the crowd was very loud, and the wrestling incredible as two district rivals squared off with identical 5-1 league records. Eleven of the 14 matches were decided by decisions, and the final result was determined in the last match. Rogers pulled out to an early 15-0 lead before the Jags made a run, pulling within 2 points at 24-22 entering the final match. Both teams bumped their 189 pounders to 215 in the finale, with Rogers coming out on top, holding off a great double-leg takedown shot by ER's Garin Heslop in the final seconds which would have sent the match into overtime. The result was a victory for Rogers by a score of 27-22. Each match was intense and many were decided in the final seconds. What a way to start a great rivalry that will last for many years to come. The JV match was just as exciting as Emerald Ridge pulled ahead in the final match, winning the last two by fall for a three point dual win.
