Steed 2nd at Preseason Nationals
Mitch Steed competed with the Bearclaw Wrestling Club at the USAW Preseason Nationals in Cedar Fall, Iowa and finished second at 189 pounds. Steed pinned his first opponent in 43 seconds, won his next two by decision, before winning a 4-3 decision in the semi-finals over an Iowa state placer. In the finals, Steed lost a Michigan wrestler ranked nationally at 15th by a score of 6-2. Steed is currently the 29th ranked senior in the nation at 189 by WrestlingUSA Magazine.

Souza earns All-American Honors
James Souza had an excellent showing at the USA Wrestling Cadet Greco-Roman National Tournament finishing SIXTH in the nation and placing as an All-American. Souza (will be a junior this year) went 6-2 during the tournament as was literally one point away from wrestling in the finals. A complicated point system put him into the sixth place match where he lost a close decision.

Carr and Snyder represent Washington at Women's Nationals
Seniors Kaylee Carr and Kathryn Snyder represented Team Washington at the Asics Women's National Tournament held in Fargo, ND July 20-21. Carr competed in the 146 pound bracket and was one win away from placing as an All-American. Snyder was not able to compete this year due to injuries sustained at training camp. As a team, Washington had 19 girls compete and placed fourth in the indivdual tournament. The next day at the National Women's Duals, Team WA placed fifth, losing only to champion California.

Jaguars Return from Summer Team Camp
18 Jaguar wrestlers and 3 coaches attended K & K Wrestling Camp in Leavenworth, WA. Four days of technique, drilling, team bonding and a river raft trip were all part of a great experience.

Freestyle State Results

Mitch Steed won the 189 pound junior freestyle state title last weekend and James Souza finished second in the 171 pound cadet division.
Souza and Steed also won Greco state titles this season to go along with state judo titles the following week. It has been a busy few weeks of competition for the pair.
Bringing home state titles in the girls junior division were Kathryn Snyder and Kaylee Carr while Meghan Kajca finished second.
These placings qualify the wrestlers to attend the National Championships in Fargo, ND held in July. More info on that later. ]
Souza and Steed will also be participating in the Cadet and Junior Duals as part of Team Washington.

Four state medals
Kaylee Carr and Mitch Steed placed 3rd in their weight classes while James Souza was 5th and Kathryn Snyder was 7th. A good ending to a fun season.

Three boys and eight girls to state
Girls are Region II Co-Champs
Mitch Steed (junior) won the Region 2 championship at 189 pounds in a great overtime match to adance to the state tournament. <watch the title match on youtube> Two sophomores also advanced to state at 160 pounds as Colten Williams placed second and James Souza was third. Joe McDaniel finished 6th and John Morrison had a good showing in the tournament. You can follow their brackets at the right-->.
The girl's team had a very successful day as eight placed in the top-six to advance to state. The girl's also tied with the ladies from Rogers for the Region 2 team title. Kaylee Carr was a runner-up, Dee Fegurgur was third, Dallas Welker and Emily Bond each finished fourth. Kathryn Snyder, Jazz Magraff and Ashana Armstrong were fifth while Meghan Kajca was sixth. Alternates to state are Brianne Wolfe and Kaitlynn Nelson. You can follow their brackets at the right-->.

Emerald Ridge and Rogers tie for the Girl's Region 2 Title
Steed and Welker Sub-Region Champs
Five boys wrestlers advanced to the Region 2 Tournament by placing in the top-four at last Saturdays sub-regional. Mitch Steed won his first league title wrestling at 189 pounds. Colten Williams was runner-up and James Souza finished third, both at 160 pounds. John Morrison (119) and Joe McDaniel (215) placed fourth to move on to next weekend.
The Girls team finished second in the sub-regional and Dallas Welker won her second League Title. Second place finishers were Kathryn Snyder, Dee Fegurgur, Kaylee Carr, Jazz Magraff and Ashana Armstrong. Other girls advancing to this weekend's regional held at ER are Megan Kajca, Breana Yardis, Brianne Wolfe, Sabrina Collins, and Emily Bond.

Congrats Nieblas'
Welcome the newest member of the Jaguar Wrestling family: Riley Brynn Nieblas was born on Tuesday, January 27 to coach Brian and Megan. Everyone is doing well. |
Wrapping up duals this week
The boys wrap up the regular season with three duals this week against Rogers, Puyallup and Graham-Kapowsin. The Girls wrestle at Rogers on Friday.
Girls win Hoquiam Tournament
The girls team won their first-ever invitational tournament championship at the Hoquiam Alumni Invitational. Dee Fegurgur and Kaylee Carr each won their weight classes. More results
